21 Jump Street (2012)

Directed By: Phil Lord and Chris Miller

Written By: Michael Bacall (screenplay), Michael Bacall & Jonah Hill (story)

Starring: Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum and Ice Cube

Synopsis:

Don’t fret! If you suck ass in High School, you can always fall back on being an undercover cop.

Musings:

It was funnier than I thought it would be, with plenty of gross out humor and classic Jonah Hill delivery. On the surface, it’s just another police comedy but when you dig deeper, it’s still just another police comedy. Entertaining yes, mind-expanding no.

I don’t know what it is about that Jonah Hill but he’s fun to watch. I don’t think he’s a versatile actor (even though he got an Oscar nod for Money Ball) but he’s realistic and down to earth. Those are qualities that will continue to make him successful.

I enjoyed their depiction of high school and the party scene was pretty, pretty good. I’m glad Ice Cube was in it and having “Straight Outta Compton” in the soundtrack made it that much better. They did a good job of tying in the original show.

Problem: I hate Channing Tatum’s name

Mood for watching: Angsty

What to eat and drink: Sloppy Joes and Malt Liquor

If I made it: The biker gang would have more grit

Why watch: For the lasting memories
